Airport staff on strike today

WORKERS at Doncaster's Robin Hood Airport have gone on strike today in a row over pay.

Baggage handlers started a 24 hour walkout at midnight after failing to agree terms on overtime pay.

The dispute is over staff wanting overtime pay when they work longer than their 37.5 hour weekly contract. However, contractor Servisair will only pay overtime after 45 hours.

Union bosses said 20 members from the Transport and General Workers sector of Unite were striking.

John Evans regional industrial organiser for Unite said he expected flight delays especially during the afternoon when the Finningley airport was busier.

However, both the airport and Servisair said flights would not be delayed.

A Servisair spokesman added check in staff had already accepted the offer which would not be improved.

A further 24 hours walkout is scheduled to begin at midnight on Sunday.
