Advice service goes hi-tech
A HEALTH advice and counselling service for young people has gone more hi-tech.
Jigsaw, a service for young people aged 11 to 19, works in the community with young people providing them with free confidential advice, information and counselling on any issue which affects young people’s health and wellbeing.
Now, to help keep in touch with the young people, staff who work for Jigsaw can be contacted via Facebook as well as on their mobile phones and by email.
Topics the staff can talk to young people about include sexual health advice, healthy eating and cooking on a budget, relationships, emotional health and wellbeing, stopping smoking, substance misuse and risk-taking behaviour – which covers areas such as smoking, alcohol and dangerous driving.
Jigsaw staff also work with schools, youth clubs and training agencies.
Fiona Feris, deputy manager at Jigsaw, said: “Our sessions are designed to be interactive and educational while remaining informal and can be tailor made for specific targeted groups. We have many resources which help make our sessions fun while encouraging learning.”
Any young people wanting to contact Jigsaw can contact Fiona at fiona.feris@rdash.nhs.uk or by texting or ringing 07786 198675, or her colleague Lindsay by emailing lindsay.taylor@rdash.nhs.uk or texting or ringing 07917 031899.
