45 jobs go at firm
A CATERING equipment firm has announced plans to shed nearly a third of its staff resulting in 45 job losses.
American owned Central Bottling International revealed it wants to cut jobs at its Plumtree Farm Industrial Estate base in Bircotes.
Staff were told at a company meeting. Consultations were now taking place with its 133-strong workforce.
Harworth councillor Frank Hart believes further job cuts are "just another nail in the coffin" for the area.
He said: "If the jobs are lost it is going to be devastating for the people there.
"We have lost that many jobs round here with the closure of the glass bulb factory, the colliery and the shoe factory.
"In the last 15 years three major employers that employed a lot of people have been hit. This sounds like another nail in the coffin of Harworth and Bircotes."
Another Harworth Councillor, John Clayton, is keen to speak with the firm's bosses and has offered his support for those who are affected by the move.
Set up 25 years ago, Central Bottling International is part of the FleetwoodGoldcoWyard group.
It aims to provide industrial manufacturing equipment and services to the food, beverage and packaging industries globally.
No formal comment was available from the firm at the time of going to press.
It is understood the move is so that the company can continue to compete in the current economic climate.
