Police are appealing for witnesses after a moped rider suffered a serious leg injury on Cantley Lane, Doncaster.

The incident happened at 10.29am on Bank Holiday Monday, about 75 metres north of Goodison Boulevard.

The rider of the black, BTM moped, a 56-year-old local man, is believed to have been travelling along Cantley Lane towards town when he apparently lost control of the machine and hit a lamppost.

He was thrown from the moped and sustained a serious broken leg and was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary, where he was detained.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash or anyone who saw the way the moped was being driven just prior to it. Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident 371 of May 27.
