A man is critically ill after a mystery incident in Hexthorpe, Doncaster, earlier this week.

It happened in Shadyside at around 9.25pm on Monday, June 23, and involved a 42-year-old man who is now in hospital with serious head injuries, which police were informed of around 1.30am the next day.

Officers are now seeking to discover what may have happened to the man, who remains in a critical condition in hospital.

A woman who was driving a dark-coloured car along Shadyside at around 9.25pm on Monday evening has come forward to provide information about the incident and is being treated as a witness.

She spoke to the ambulance service and gave them information on the incident, but it has not yet been established how the man came by the injuries. At this stage there is no definite indication of a crime.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 57 of June 24.
