Firefighters spent two hours rescuing a horse stuck in a Doncaster river yesterday.

They were called to the River Torne at Bawtry Road, Rossington Bridge, around 1.30pm and dug part of the banking away so the animal could be pulled out of the water with a harness.

The operation took until 3.30pm and the horse was left in the care of RSPCA officers.

In a spearate incident, Doncaster and Edlington crews were called to Alverley View, Balby, last night when a bonfire got out of control and started to damage the guttering of a house.
