A group of four firefighters based at the Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster have undertaken the gruelling Tough Mudder challenge in support of their friend and colleague.
Ross Landells , Daniel Bryan, Greg Chambers and Steve Harding took part in the hardcore 12 mile obstacle course to fundraise for the Everyman Cancer charity.
Tough Mudder was designed by Special Forces to test individuals all around strength, stamina, determination, and camaraderie.
“In April this year one of our close friends and work colleagues, Firefighter Alex Langford was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 34, which was totally devastating,” said Ross.
He added: “Due to the close knit friendship of the lads on the Station, we felt we wanted to show our friend and his family they’re not alone with their fight against Cancer, in these hard times.
“We wanted to help support Alex and his family by donating to the Everyman Cancer charity and help to raise awareness of testicular and prostate cancer - which is why we signed up to the Tough Mudder Challenge in Yorkshire.”
“Due to the fact that working in the Fire Service is about teamwork, willingness to help others in the face of obstacles and camaraderie we thought it would be a great challenge for us to complete together.”
“We had a great time completing the 12 mile course full of obstacles such as mud, barbed wire, fire, ice-water and 10,000 volts of electricity and had a laugh along the way. Although we never forgot the seriousness of the reason why we challenged ourselves.
“It is fantastic to have raised £1,000 for such a worthy cause and we would like to thank our colleagues, family and friends for sponsoring the team.”
Steve Gill, Managing Director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “I would like to congratulate Ross, Daniel, Greg and Steve for their fantastic fundraising efforts.
“It is wonderful that they have been so supportive of their colleague Alex and successfully completed the Tough Mudder course in his honour.
“Everyone at the airport sends their best wishes to Alex and hopes he makes a full recovery.”
