A drug addict has been jailed for 11 months after burgling his own parents’ home.

Darren Humphrys, aged 21, who has already clocked up 43 criminal offences, was thrown out by his family after causing persistent problems through drugs and alcohol.

Desperate Humphrys broke into their house on Gattison Lane, Rossington, Doncaster, when they were out for the evening and stole £200 in cash, a mobile phone and bank cards.

His mother said in a victim impact statement read at Sheffield Crown Court: “I don’t feel safe when Darren is out of prison.”

Prosecutor Stephanie Hollis said: “She never knows when he is going to turn up and ask for money. He believes he can help himself.

“He has stolen from them since he was a child and as an adult. They have tried to help him and his mother genuinely feels scared of her son.

“They are hard-working people and he was not brought up to be the way he is. She feels ashamed of him and wants nothing more to do with him.”

Humphrys, of Abbott Street, Hexthorpe, admitted breaching a restraining order and burgling the three-bedroom semi last month.

He had been banned from entering the Gattison Lane area in March this year but before the latest incident went out drinking.

Humphrys phoned his mother saying he wanted cash but she said she would not be home until the early hours.

When she and her husband returned they found their son had broken in.

Humphrys, who was arrested with the stolen goods, was also given a community order for another break-in.
