Council tenants looking for help to find a job have completed the first Ready for Work course organised by St. Leger Homes.
The two-week course included guidance on CV writing, job searching tips, sessions on confidence building and working as part of a team, and training on interview techniques.
The Ready for Work courses are part of St. Leger Homes’ World of Work Academy. The scheme is open to council tenants and members of their household who are struggling to find work. It helps them to gain the experience and skills that they need to confidently apply for a job.
As well as the support and guidance courses, the World of Work Academy will also offer work experience placements, possible interviews for entry-level jobs, and paid traineeships. World of Work is supported by Doncaster College and Job Centre Plus.
The scheme was launched in November, and so far 130 people have contacted St. Leger for support to find employment.
Susan Jordan, Chief Executive of St. Leger Homes said: “I am delighted to be able to offer such practical support to our customers. By helping them and their families to find the employment they are looking for, we are trying to strengthen communities and make a real difference in people’s lives. ”
Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones said: “I am delighted to see help being given by St. Leger Homes to assist residents who are seeking to get back into employment. This scheme offers a boost both to communities in Doncaster and our local economy.”
