Doncaster Council elections - MP’s husband among those standing

THE husband of Doncaster MP Caroline Flint is among the hopefuls standing in May’s Doncaster Council’s elections.

The deadline for nominations for the May 3 poll has closed this afternoon.

Among those contesting 21 seats across all wards is Phil Cole, the partner of Don Valley MP and Shadow Climate Change Minister Ms Flint. He is seeking election in the Edlington and Warmsworth ward.

Current civic mayor and Wheatley councillor Eva Hughes is seeking re-election for Labour.

Other noticeable names seeking re-election include leader of the Community Group Coun Martin Williams, who will contest Thorne, and Sprotbrough Conservative councillor and former cabinet for business Coun Jonathan Wood.

Among the candidates in Stainforth and Moorends is Dave Owen of the right-wing Democratic Nationalists party.
