Doncaster paratrooper and war hero Ben Parkinson was the guest of honour among a crowd of eager residents gathered at the event at the Rowena Drive fish and chip shop.

Martin Bilby, of Scawsby Fisheries, said: “It’s been a fantastic day. I couldn’t sleep last night but it’s gone according to plan and hopefully we’ve got a record.”

The event was held to raise money for Ben’s charity, Pilgrim Bandits. The official weighing was overseen by an official from Doncaster Council’s trading standards department.
