Doncaster One Direction star Louis Tomlinson broke down in tears during the group’s last concert with departing Zayn Malik, it has emerged.

Both Louis, 23 and band-mate Harry Styles were seen sobbing on stage at a concert on March 18 - the group’s last appearance as a five piece.

Thousands of fans watched as the boys blubbed at a concert in Hong Kong, apparently knowing it would be their last with the singer, who sensationally quit yesterday.

And at a show in Jakarta, Indonesia last night, Louis reached out to place an arm around an imaginary Zayn during an emotional show which also saw Styles break down on stage once more.

Zayn’s absence was initially thought to be temporary, as he returned home to the UK to deal with the fallout from allegedly cheating on his fiancee, Little Mix star Perrie Edwards.

But the pop world was stunned when the Bradford-born star revealed he was quitting the boy band sensations yesterday.

22-year-old Zayn announced his decision to bow out of the chart-topping boyband, leaving Niall Horan, Harry, Liam Payne and Louis to continue as a four-piece.

Zayn said in a statement: “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined.

“But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologise to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart.”

He continued: “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22 year old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.

“I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.”

The Best Song Ever hitmakers will record their fifth album in Zayn’s absence and will continue with the remaining dates on the band’s forthcoming world tour.

One Direction said in a statement: “We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future.

“The past five years have been beyond amazing, we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends.

“The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour.”
