it WAS a sparkler of a diamond wedding anniversary for a Doncaster couple who celebrated with family and friends.

James and Doreen Taylor, of Queen Mary’s Road, Rossington, got the surprise of their lives when a whole host of friends turned up to a BBQ in their honour to mark the milestone occasion.

Mr Taylor, 78 and Mrs Taylor, 76, got married at Doncaster Register Office on July 5 1962. They have three children Linda 59, Nena 45 and Jim, 56 who helped organise the party.

Mrs Taylor said: “I think the secret to our long and happy marriage is that we’ve always pulled together, we’ve had our ups and downs but we’ve always stuck together through everything.

“We had a lovely day at the party we thought it was just going to be family so it was a really nice surprise when so many of our friends were there. It was overwhelming.”
