Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust are running a number of free activities next week to mark Dementia Awareness Week.
The week begins with Primetimers and Walking Football at the Dome on Monday May 18, followed by a Dementia Friends awareness session and bingo.
On Tuesday May 19 there will be sequence dancing followed by a Dementia Friends Awareness Session and Bingo at Thorne Leisure Centre.
Jon Whiteley, Head of Community Development, at DCLT said: “It is important for people with dementia and their partners and carers to continue to do the activities they love.
“Life doesn’t end when dementia begins is a theme that the Alzheimer’s Society are pushing this year.
“Keeping active is important for brain health as well as heart health. Research has shown that regular exercise in middle aged or older adults can improve thinking and memory, and may reduce the risk of developing some types of dementia.”
Wednesday May 20 will see Flex and Relax Pilates followed by Dementia Friends awareness session and bingo at Dearne Valley Leisure Centre.
It is Rossington Community Swimming Pool’s turn on Thursday May 21 with a free swimming session followed by a Dementia Friends Awareness Session and Bingo.
The week will be rounded off on Friday May 22 at Edlington Leisure Centre, where people will be able to have a free swim session followed by a Dementia Friends Awareness Session and Bingo.
Jon added: “Everyone attending will be encouraged to attend the Dementia Friends session immediately after their free activity and we hope to see lots of existing and new customers coming along to find out more,”
