Councillors in Mexborough and Conisbrough will get no pay rise for now, if they agree to the findings of an independent panel today.
Doncaster ward members’ allowances have been reviewed by the Independent Remuneration Panel after councillors decided they should not be exempt from ‘the pain of these times’.
They will discuss recommendations for their pay to remain unchanged at a full council meeting.
The pay review comes after members passed a motion by former Mayor Peter Davies in March to determine whether allowances can now be ‘substantially reduced’. The motion stated: “Politicians should not be exempt from the pain of these times.”
The remuneration panel’s only recommendation is that members of the standards committee have their allowances reduced due to a ‘significant decrease’ in its workload.
