A STUDENT who completed a 13-mile sponsored bike ride in memory of his teenage cousin is fast approaching raising £2,000 for charity.

Ben Wooldridge, 17, cycled from his home village of Moorends to Doncaster Lakeside to honour his 14-year-old cousin Beth Fitzpatrick who died from cancer on Mother’s Day.

The ride, which Ben and his four friends completed in one hour and 20 minutes on Saturday, has already raised around £1,700. Ben, of Park Road, will donate the final amount to the Teenage Cancer Trust charity, which provided support to Beth during her four month fight against the disease.

McAuley School pupil Beth, of Cantley, died on April 3.

Ben, a student at Trinity Academy, said: “It felt fantastic when we finished and the whole day was a great buzz.

“It was for Beth and thinking of her spurred us on.”
