A community pub is toasting its success after it was crowned the best boozer in the Doncaster area by real ale fans.

The Crown Inn in Belton has won the Doncaster and district Campaign for Real Ale’s Pub of the Year award.

Hosts John and Lynn Green, who have been at the Crown for five years, were presented with their trophy by CAMRA representatives, during a special evening of celebration.

Mr Green, 56, said: “We’re very pleased. The judges were impressed with the number of real ales we sell. We expanded the choice from two to six and always have one on rotation.

“Plus we use local sources including Glentworth and Tom Woods.”

The pub has received planning permission to extend its premises and serve food from next year.

It is also home to several sports teams and is involved in numerous charity fundraisers. Last year it raised £19,000 for Macmillan nurses.
