VIDEO: Fears grow for missing Doncaster woman

Fears are growing for the safety of a missing woman who has not been seen for nine days since leaving her family’s home in Doncaster.

Police said they are keeping an open mind as to whether Magdelana Charciarek, aged 27, left her family’s in home in Doncaster by choice, with help or if she was coerced by someone.

Speaking at a press conference officers said Magdelana, who arrived from Poland to visit family on September 24 and was last seen on September 30, had a history of hitch hiking but always kept in touch with family.

Superintendent Neil Thomas from Doncaster said there had been no confirmed sightings and a national appeal had been launched following her disappearance.

He added:: “Magdelana has got a history of travelling, she likes sight seeing, she likes to hitch hike but whenever she’s done that she’s kept in contact with her family so on this occasion as we’ve had no contact with her since the 30th obviously we are concerned for her safety and would like people to come forward if they know where she is or if have sighted her.

“We are working on the assumption that she has potentially left Doncaaster, whether that’s off her own bat, with help or coerced by someone else. We are not quite sure at the moment so we’re keeping a fairly open mind on that.”

“It is unusual to have no sightings of someone for this length of time that’s why we have raised this nationally to have no contact from a lady who does keep in contact with her family on a regular basis is concerning for us.”

Supt Thomas said her family were “baffled” by her disappearance and were becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare.

He added: “They are a very close knit family and they are clearly worried that she has not made contact. Her family are devastated at the moment that they’ve gone through such a long period without having contact.

“At the moment they are as baffled as we are.”

Magdelana Charciarek, aged 27, was last seen at around 1pm last Wednesday as she left her family’s home in Cookson Street, Doncaster, planning to go to the town centre.

Officers believe the 27-year-old, who is a keen photographer, may have travelled elsewhere to find work but said the lack of contact with her family was out of character.

Magdelana left home with just £10 and without her phone or passport.

Supt Thomas said a dedicated team had been set up to work on the case and South Yorkshire Police were working with other forces in a bid to find her.
