a HIGH profile operation to stamp out street drinking in Doncaster has been hailed a success by police.
Officers from Doncaster’s Safer Neighbourhood Team teamed up with Doncaster Alcohol Services, and Framework Housing Association to target town centre street drinkers and offer them help.
The operation took part in Priory Walk on Tuesday where members of the team managed to talk to ten street drinkers.
Town Centre Sergeant Steve Butler said: “We worked with people from housing support and alcohol services who were on hand to offer help and advice to street drinkers on their lifestyle choices.
“I think we have made a lot of progress tackling street drinking in Doncaster and it is reducing. We just need to make sure we stay on top of it over the summer months.
“People sometimes think by doing these operations that drinking on the street is illegal, it isn’t but continually drinking on the street after being told not to is.
“Everyone involved in this high profile operation felt confident that we had made progress.”
The police along with other agencies have been conducting such operations over the past two months.
