A wages snatch from an elderly couple’s car is being investigated by Doncaster police.

More than £10,000 in a briefcase was grabbed from a 68-year-old woman’s lap as she sat in her husband’s car at traffic lights near Town End roundabout.

The money had been collected from the bank to pay their staff.

A 69-year-old man and his wife were travelling in a red Renault Mégane Scenic towards Doncaster town centre at the junction of Bentley Road and the roundabout, on Tuesday, August 13, at about 3.40pm, when they stopped at traffic lights.

Two men reached in through an open window and opened the door before stealing a briefcase containing the cash. They ran off and got into what is believed to be a silver Toyota Avensis, heading over St George’s Bridge towards town.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or if anyone has any information relating to it.

DC Jon White said: “We believe this may have been a targeted attack.

“We are keen to trace a woman who was standing at the bus stop at this location and may have seen the car the two men are believed to have got into, and also the driver of a blue Peugeot 307 we believe may have been behind the Mégane at the traffic lights.”

n Anyone with information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
