A sex offender who was off the South Yorkshire Police ‘radar’ for 18 months has appeared in court.

Peter Whiteley, aged 50, was arrested in London after police published his photograph on Crimewatch.

One of the conditions of his release from prison was that he notified the police of any change of address, but he disappeared from Doncaster in June 2013.

He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with breaching his notification requirements.

He has been remanded in custody until March 25.
