STAFF at a popular Doncaster restaurant have helped nab a robber who snatched a customer’s handbag as she left their premises.

A young woman had just left Turkuaz in Nether Hall Road when a man ran up and tried to grab her bag. After a short tussle the raider ran off but three members of staff ran after him and managed to apprehend him.

However, the robber, who had dumped the bag managed to escape.

The staff recovered the bag and DNA evidence linked Mohamed Azzi to the incident which happened at 2am on Sunday, March 3.

The 21-year-old from Sheffield pleaded guilty to robbery when he appeared in court, police said. He was bailed pending sentencing at Doncaster Crown Court next month.

After the case Det Con Neil Turner said: “Without the assistance from the staff at the restaurant, this man wouldn’t have been found and brought to justice.

“I would like to thank them for their gallant efforts and good spirit they showed in helping the woman and enabling us to find the man.”
