There were a record number of domestic abuse offences recorded in South Yorkshire last year, new figures show.

Women's Aid said urgent changes are needed to improve police responses to domestic abuse as many survivors are still hesitant to report it.

Home Office data shows 24,808 domestic abuse related crimes were recorded by South Yorkshire Police in the year to March 2023. It is an increase from 23,613 offences the year before and the highest on record.
