Police patrols are stepping up their patrols in Sheffield after a stranger tried to talk to a school girl in the street.

The 11-year-old girl was on her way to school yesterday morning when a man she did not know tried to speak with her.

The school, which has not been revealed, have been given advice from the police, as well as the girl and her family.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A report was made to police at around 8.10am on Wednesday, 10 January of a suspicious incident on Doe Royd Lane in Sheffield. A unknown man is believed to have tried to talk to an 11-year-old girl as she was on her way to school. The girl did not respond and reported the incident when she got to school.

“Officers attended immediately and conducted a search of the area. No arrests have been made however extra patrols will be carried out. The girl and her family, as well as the school, have been given advice and reassurance.”
