Callers to South Yorkshire Police are unable to get through today on the non-emergency 101 telephone number because of technical problems.
The 999 number is still working but the force its urging people not to use it for non urgent incidents.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our non-emergency number 101.
“We are working to get this issue rectified as soon as possible.
“If you have an emergency please ring 999. Please don’t ring this number if it is not an emergency.”
The problem was discovered at around midnight.
