New lead in Doncaster rail station theft case

British Transport Police would like to trace this man in connection with the theft of a bag from WHSmith at Doncaster railway station.

British Transport Police would like to trace this man in connection with the theft of a bag from WHSmith at Doncaster railway station.

Railway police have issued a CCTV image of a man who may be able to help with their enquiries into a theft at Doncaster station.

British Transport Police is appealing for help from the public to identify a man they would like to speak to in connection with the theft of a bag from the WH Smith outlet near the station concourse.

Following a previous appeal issued in January, officers have now released CCTV footage of the man in the store prior to the theft, in the hope that someone may recognise him.

Investigating officer PC Richard Soare said: “The man entered the store prior to the theft and was captured on CCTV spending approximately 20 minutes looking around. He then left and returned a short while later, went into the back office and stole a member of staff’s bag before fleeing.

“The bag, a black satchel with a large Union Jack emblem on the front, contained the victim’s bank and credit cards, house keys and a folder containing financial information about the store.

“The CCTV footage of the man is extremely clear and we believe someone must know who he is. I’d urge anyone who may recognise the man to come forward and help this investigation.”

The theft took place at around 2.20pm on Monday, December 9, last year.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting background reference NEA/B3 of 6/01/2014, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
