AN ELDERLY couple had their life savings stolen by masked men who broke into their home during a late night robbery.
Police in Doncaster are now hunting the three men who targeted the 87-year-old man and 89-year-old woman at their home in Rossington.
Police said a “substantial amount” of cash was taken in the raid in which the elderly man was injured.
The couple were asleep when the intruders forced their way into the property.
One of the gang members hit the man who received a minor a shoulder injury.
Pc Craig Nicol said: “We believe this is a targeted attack on an elderly, vulnerable couple. I would urge anyone who has any information regarding this incident to please come forwards to help us catch those responsible.”
Police have not released any more details about the raid or whereabouts in Rossington it took place.
The victims were too traumatised to speak of their ordeal.
Rossington councillor Hilary McNamee has spoken out about the horrific crime.
She said: “My heartfelt sympathies go out to the elderly couple in Rossington following their terrible ordeal.
“Everyone expects to be safe in their home and I was horrified to hear of the vicious attack on this couple.
“This is a very serious crime but thankfully one that is not common in Rossington.
“I know the police will be doing all they can to catch these intruders and bring them to justice.”
A Rossington resident who did not want to be named added: “It is shocking that this could happen to an elderly couple in their own home.”
The robbery took place at about 11.25pm on Thursday, May 19. Police only released details about the incident this week.
