A teen who viciously stabbed a pregnant former friend after they fell out on Facebook has had her seven-year sentence cut.
Briony Bayston, aged 17, lashed out at Hannah Epton with a kitchen knife after the pair swapped angry phone messages and Ms Epton appeared outside Bayston’s home.
Bayston went to confront Ms Epton – who was 26 weeks’ pregnant at the time – and slashed her head and arm in the ensuing struggle.
London’s Court of Appeal heard Ms Epton was rushed to hospital and treated for head cuts and two gashes to her arm.
She and Bayston had fallen out six months earlier and there had been ‘hostile exchanges on social networking sites’.
Bayston, of Woodfield Avenue, Mexborough, was sentenced to seven years in custody at Sheffield Crown Court in April, after she admitted wounding with intent.
But her case reached the Appeal Court as she successfully challenged her sentence – which was reduced to five years.
Mr Justice Blake said insufficient account was taken of her ‘youth and immaturity’ at the time of the attack.
