Police are appealing for information to help identify a man suspected of an attempted robbery in Mexborough.

The suspect is alleged to have punched a 49-year-old woman in the stomach before trying to steal her handbag.

The attack took place at the end of an alleyway that leads on to Harlington Road and runs alongside a day care centre.

Police have only just issued an appeal for witnesses to the incident, which happened on Saturday, July 30, at about 6.15pm.

They have also released an E-fit picture of what the man is believed to look like.

He is described as being about 30-years-old, about 5ft 8ins tall, with a slim build.

Pc Fahd Nasser said: “Fortunately the woman was not seriously injured but has been quite shaken by the incident.

“If anyone believes they know the identity if the man, I would urge them to contact the police.”
