The funeral of a mum and daughter murdered in their home has taken place today.
A private service was held for Jean and Sarah Redfern.
Jean’s brother and sister-in-law have paid tribute to the pair, who were aged 67 and 33 respectively.
In a statement Jean’s brother said: “Our family are deeply affected by the sudden deaths of Jean and Sarah. They were private and well respected members of the community as well as loving, caring and generous people.”
Her sister-in-law added: “Both Jean and Sarah were extremely thoughtful and shared a love of shopping and holidays in Whitby.
“They were both so welcoming and will be sadly missed by the whole family.”
Police were called to the pair’s home in Sandygate, Wath, on July 22.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Jean died asphyxiation and Sarah from severe head injuries.
Peter Redfern, 70, of Sandygate, Wath, who is Jean’s husband and Sarah’s dad, has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with their deaths.
He is due to stand trial next year.
