Magistrates have fined a man more than £300 after he refused to scoop his dog’s poop.
Matthew Johnson, of Darlington Grove, Moorends, was fined £125, ordered to pay £163 costs and a £15 victim surcharge for failing to remove dog faeces, contrary to the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.
In April 2011 a St Leger housing officer witnessed Mr Johnson letting his dog foul on a grass verge near where he lived. Johnson failed to pick it up when requested and was handed a £50 fixed penalty fine. Despite several opportunities to pay Johnson refused and so court action was taken as a last resort.
Councillor Cynthia Ransome said: “We work hard to promote responsible dog ownership and this case gives a clear warning to the selfish minority”.Contact the neighbourhood team on 01302 736000 or www.lovewhereyoulive.org.uk/doncaster
