New members are being recruited to join a team which oversees treatment at Doncaster prison.
The Independent Monitoring Board is looking for five people to carry out important work on behalf of the Secretary of State, ensuring prisoners and staff at HMP and YOI Doncaster are treated fairly, decently and with respect.
The IMB acts as the eyes and ears for the Secretary of State within the prison, and its members have right to access to any part of the establishment.
They are allowed to talk to people in custody - out of sight and sound of prison officers - to ensure they are being held in decent and humane conditions.
A spokesman said: “The board is looking for five members to go into prison for approximately three to four hours a week.
“Although the position, which is a government appointment, is unpaid it is a very interesting and rewarding role.”
Anyone interested in finding out more should call the IMB clerk at HMP and YOI Doncaster on 01302 767825 or visit www.imb.gov.uk for information regarding the IMB’s role.
