A pregnant woman has described the terrifying moment her dog was attacked by a pit bull and she was threatened by its owners.

Stacey Harding, 28, says she is scared to walk her dogs following the incident in which the owners of the dog threatened to hit her.

Miss Harding, who is 31 weeks pregnant was walking her two whippets Reo and Rocco and her Italian greyhound Indie on Town Fields when the attack happened.

She said: “I saw two girls with a pit bull type dog and they started shouting and swearing telling me to get my dogs on a lead even though all three were on the lead.

“The next thing the pit bull lunged towards us, it was the most vicious dog I have ever seen.

“I was trying to pull my dogs away and then my whippet Reo ran across the road and the other dog chased it and starting mauling him.

“The girls didn’t even try and stop him, they were more bothered about threatening to hit me and fight me because I was trying to save my dog.

“If it had got hold of my smallest dog there’s no doubt it would’ve killed her.”

Miss Harding, of Bennetthorpe, said during the attack a car clipped the pit bull and he let go of Reo, who had to undergo £200 emergency surgery to her neck.

Miss Harding sustained an injured back in the ordeal on Thursday night.

She said: “I’m a dog lover but this dog was out of control, imagine if it had been a child on the receiving end, more should be done to prevent dogs like this being allowed out without a lead.”

A police spokesman said the incident had been reported and investigation were continuing.
