A YOUNG man who enjoyed watching pornographic videos of young girls on his computer had a rude awakening when police carried out a pre-dawn raid on his Doncaster home.

Dean Bedford admitted he had downloaded the 28 clips on his laptop and for months “derived some sexual satisfaction from looking at images of female children under the age of 12”, said Carl Fitch, prosecuting at Doncaster Crown Court.

The 21-year-old handed over the computer when police officers searched the bedroom of his family home in Sandall Rise, Wheatley Hills, last November.

Mr Fitch said police obtained the search warrant after Bedford’s details were passed on to them by other agencies investigating child exploitation.

Bedford pleaded guilty to five specimen counts of making indecent images.

His barrister, Michael Upson, urged the judge not to send him to prison because of his age, his previous good character and his assistance to the police.

“The court can have the utmost confidence this is a man who won’t come before the justice system again. He’s done everything he can to make things right. He offended in a way that his curiosity has run away with him.”

Bedford was sentenced to a three year supervision order with attendance at a sex offenders’ group to address his offending. His name will also remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years and his computer was confiscated.
