A couple were threatened by men who are believed to have been carrying a knife and a bat while their house was ransacked and burgled last night.

Police were called to a property in Oakwood Drive, Branton at around 9.55pm on Friday, February 6, following the couple’s ordeal.

It is reported a number of men with their faces covered forced their way into a property before threatening the occupant, a 49-year-old woman.

The woman was held in a room while the house was reportedly ransacked.

During the incident, the woman’s husband, a 53-year-old man who also lives at the address, returned to the property.

He was also held by the group while they stole high value items of jewellery and cash.

The men then fled the scene after stealing the couple’s Peugeot 206 convertible.

The car was later found burned out in the Green Balk area of Dalton, between Old Edlington and Mickelbring.

Temporary Detective Sergeant Andy Knowles from Doncaster CID said: “This was a horrifying and calculated burglary that has left the victims shaken and scared.

“Thankfully nobody was injured during the incident but it is imperative we identify and locate the group responsible for this attack.

“I’d urge anyone who may have seen a group of men behaving suspiciously in the Branton area, or may have witnessed a Peugeot 206 being driven at speed in the Dalton area, to get in touch and tell us what you know.”
