A WOULD-BE child abductor who tried to drag a girl into his car has been declared one of Humberside’s most wanted criminals.
The suspect who tried to bundle a 16-year-old into his car between Haxey and Westwoodside has made it on to a list of the top 12 suspects police want to catch in time for Christmas. The list also includes sex attackers, armed robbers and a conmen who tricked a pensioner out of money.
Detectives are stepping up their manhunt for the suspect and have re-released this e-fit to jog peoples memories in the hope of apprehending him before he strikes again.
Det Con Brian Coates of Humberside Police, said: “We have decided to re-release the image in an attempt to bring this man to justice and have him locked up instead of walking the streets and possibly committing further offences.”
The girl was walking in Tower Hill, Westwoodside, when she was approached by a man in a green Ford hatchback.
The driver grabbed hold of the girl’s arm, before she managed to pull away and the vehicle drove off towards Haxey.
Police have described the suspect as white, in his late 40s or early 50s, with tanned skin, full facial stubble and long, dark messy hair. He was wearing a white shirt, with blue and red patterns on it and a green quilted waistcoat or body warmer over the top.
His voice was deep and he spoke with a South Yorkshire accent.
Officers have still not made any arrests over the attempted abduction which took place at about 9.30pm on August 9.
Det Con Coates added: “We are continuing to treat this as a serious incident and would like to remind females in particular to be vigilant when out walking alone.
“I would ask for anyone who recognises the man in the picture to come forward.”
The other suspects on the most wanted list relate to crimes which mostly happened in Hull and Scunthorpe.
