POLICE are warning Isle residents to be vigilant after a spate of bogus caller incidents.
Numerous victims have called Humberside Police claiming they have had items stolen from their homes by people who knocked on doors claiming they have been sent by major companies to carry out home repairs.
Detectives say criminals often target the elderly and vulnerable, either by carrying out false repairs, or distracting them and stealing their purses, wallets and handbags.
A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “In recent weeks we have had information about criminals who are trying a number of different tactics to get themselves into your homes.
“Some of them can seem quite genuine, so please be aware of this and don’t let people into your homes, who you don’t know.
“Think twice about what people are telling you and if you doubt anything then call police immediately and don’t let them in your home.
“They target people who are vulnerable and elderly so if you have family or neighbours who you feel may be a target then please take care to ensure their safety.
“If you have suspicions and think that people are committing such offences in your area then please call Humberside Police tel 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on tel 0800 555 111. “
