An 80-year-old cyclist had ridden home from Carcroft Working Men’s Club when an attempt was made to rob him at his home.

Police are appealing for information following the incident which happened on Sunday, April 27 at around 11.30pm.

The man had left the club on his bike to head home. He was then approached in High Street, close to the Iceland supermarket, by a young man described as being between 16 and 18 years old.

The youth then followed the pensioner to his home address, nearby, and attempted to force his way into the property.

When the pensioner became scared and refused to let him into the house, it is reported that the youth punched him in the face.

The elderly man managed to apply the security chain to the door, and the youth, who was white and had short, cropped hair, left the area.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen the pensioner and the youth talking in High Street, Carcroft, that night to get in touch.

Call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 20 of Monday 28 April, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
