THURNSCOE couple Carrie Ann Bowman and Mark Lapornik will have a great start to married life!
The car mechanic and community nurse won’t pay a penny towards their wedding day celebrations, after winning the lot in a Holiday Inn competition at Doncaster.
Their hotel wedding package worth £2495 will see them married at Warmsworth Hall with a three-course wedding breakfast for 40 guests, a Bucks Fizz reception, sparkling wine for the speeches, and an evening buffet and disco for 80 people. They will also receive six weeks’ membership to the Club Moativation health and fitness club, and an executive suite for their first night as a married couple.
Mark, 31, who like Carrie Ann is formerly from Goldthorpe, asked her to marry him over a meal at a Darfield restaurant, on Valentine’s Day this year.
He said: “All this is brilliant. We were entered in to a draw when we expressed interest at holding our wedding at Warmsworth, then out of the blue we received a ‘phone call. The money we have saved for the wedding might go towards a lovely honeymoon now.”
The couple first met ‘out on the town’ at Barnsley, although Carrie Ann, 29, had spotted Mark driving around in his classic VW sky-blue Beetle car.
Their wedding will be a traditional one, said Mark, with just one variation from the norm - he will have two best men instead of one, in the form of Michael Tonge and Jonathan Scaife, both from Wombwell! “I couldn’t choose between them so they’ll share the duties,”laughed Mark. “It seemed the ideal solution.”
