Details of all council spending over £500 is now available, subjecting the authority’s finances to the scrutiny of an “army of armchair auditors”, according to Communities Secretary Eric Pickles.
The information about how much the council has spent on goods and services, from one-off payments to individuals to the thousands of pounds paid out regularly for major services, is all detailed online on a monthly basis.
The move is part of a Govenment commitment to greater transparency.
Mr Pcikles says the move, along with a commitment to publish invitations to tender and final contracts for projects over £500 will enable voluntary and smaller businesses to bid for council work.
