Two unsung heroes from Doncaster were on the right track in a contest organised by a national rail operator.
Wendy Barclay and Gladys Gilderson have both been crowned community champions by Grand Central for their generous contribution to the local community.
Wendy, a volunteer for the Friends of Sandall Park, was nominated for her commitment and support to help make the scheme a success. The judges were particularly impressed by Wendy’s dedication and pride in the work she does, and her commitment in going the extra mile to help the local community.
Gladys, a volunteer for M25 Housing & Support Group, was nominated for her continued commitment to the shelter, providing home-cooked meals every Saturday and Sunday morning.
The judges were impressed by Gladys’ long-term dedication, volunteering for over 17 years, as well as her generous and lively nature helping to support other volunteers.
The pair have been invited to an awards ceremony in September, where they will celebrate alongside other regional winners and be presented with a pair of return train tickets to London. One overall winner along the West Riding Route will also be selected to receive an overnight trip for four to London and a £500 donation to charity.
