CHILDREN have been getting their hands dirty as part of a community garden project.

Year Three pupils at Brooke Primary School, Thorne, have been preparing the patch of land ready for planting some fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Teachers and parents at the school in Wike Gate Road have been lending a helping hand to the project, which will see classes and the community able to use the green space.

In the school’s most recent Ofsted report the teaching staff were praised for their initiatives promoting healthy lifestyles, with inspectors commenting that the children’s knowledge about fresh fruit and vegetables was outstanding. The school also has the national Healthy School status.
