A scheme which aims to make Sheffield the most physically active city in the UK by 2020 has won a prestigious award.
Activity Sheffield’s Miracle Cure project is a city-wide approach to increasing physical activity levels and aims to overcome barriers to activity, enable people to reach their potential and make a positive difference to their health.
At the Ukactive Flame Awards, held at Telford International Centre and attended by more than 850 people, Miracle Cure won the Healthy Partnerships award for its work.
Coun Isobel Bowler of Sheffield City Council, said: “I would like to congratulate the Activity Sheffield team and all their wide-reaching partners for coming away with this award, which is very much deserved after all the hard work they have put in.
“If physical activity were a drug, it really would be billed as a miracle cure. And that’s why it’s so important to encourage people to become more physically active.”
More than 5,000 people have already signed up to take part. Visit www.movemoresheffield.com/miraclecure for details.
