THE ongoing campaign to raise over £30,000 to help save All Saints’ Church in Misterton has received another boost.
A winter wassail was held before Christmas when carol singers performed in Old Forge Road, Grove Park, Hillsyde Avenue and Swallow Court, raising £110 for the church roof appeal.
The church was targeted eight times in as many years by lead thieves - resulting in a £33,308 repair bill - but community events have seen almost £20,000 raised so far.
There were fears the church would have to close its doors for good as costs mounted in the wake of the crime spree but work has already began on the roof and an advanced alarm system has been fitted.
More fundraising events are planned in the next few months and will be advertised in the Bells/Advertiser.
