Arty schoolchildren are celebrating after seeing their designs for seasonal fire safety posters put up by thankful firefighters.

Youngsters from Sheep Dip Lane Primary School in Dunscroft were handed the task of designing Christmas-themed posters offering home fire safety tips by firefighters from Thorne green watch.

The project was part of South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue’s ‘Fire Watch Crew’ scheme, whereby firefighters team up with a school to encourage youngsters to take an active role in helping to reduce fires.

Firefighters were so impressed with the poster designs, two have been incorporated into full size posters and leaflets which have been handed out in the community.

Doncaster arson reduction officer Paul Charnley, said: “We have developed a great working relationship with youngsters at this school and were particularly impressed with the thought which had gone into their poster designs.

“We felt the messages should certainly form part of our advice to the community at this time of year.”
