A FASHIONISTA is using her passion for all things vintage to transform a charity shop and boost sales along the way.

Katrina Richardson, 26, approached the Age UK charity shop with the intention of co-ordinating all the vintage donations on one rail, but her vision quickly grew and now the whole of the top floor is packed with one of a kind finds.

Katrina, who volunteers at the Bowers Fold shop when she is not working as a call centre sales rep, said: “It’s been going really well, we worked it out and it’s boosted sales by about ten to 12 per cent.

“Vintage fashion is really popular at the minute, I’ve always loved looking around the charity shops, but I just thought it’d be really good to have all the vintage clothing together in one place to make it easier for people.

“You can get so many bargains. It’s good quality, it’s one-of-a-kind pieces some of which are made with fabrics that are not even manufactured anymore. And it’s for charity so it’s guilt-free shopping.”

Katrina, of Mere Lane, Armthorpe, has found her Born & Reworn VintAGE section to be so popular that she has pitched the idea to other charity shops in the region who are now planning to follow suit.

As well as women’s fashion, jewellery, shoes, accessories and vintage home wear, Katrina is currently working on the vintage menswear section of the shop for which she is appealing for clothes.

Katrina added: “I love the high street but I’d find a top I really wanted and it’d be £40.

“I just thought I can’t justify spending that on one top.

“Everyone is struggling with the credit crunch so this is perfect you can come in and get a full outfit, bag and accessories for the same price as one item from the high street, and you know ten other people won’t be wearing it on a night out.”

Age UK shop manager Kim Paterson added: “Katrina has done a brilliant job.It has really improved sales, there’s has been a lot of interest from customers and we’re finding it’s attracting a lot of different customers as well.”

Age UK in Bowers Fold is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm.
