Friends of the talented young footballer from Dunscroft have organised a football tournament that will take place this Sunday at Thorne Colliery in Moorends, with proceeds going towards funeral costs.

The event, organised by Kirk Frost, will feature a girls’ and boys’ tournament, stalls and raffles.

Natalie Wilkinson, aged 25, who will be playing on the day, said: “Everyone had so much love for Ethan. He was so popular and everyone liked him – no-one has a bad word to say about him.

“He loved football and used to play with a lot of the people taking part, so everyone thought it was the perfect way to remember Ethan and raise money towards the funeral.

“Members of his family have said they have been really comforted to see how everyone has rallied round to organise the event.

“It will be bittersweet on Sunday but I’m sure he’ll be there in spirit.”

Club Doncaster Sports College paid tribute to Ethan. A spokesman said: “Ethan was a popular student at the college, studying a Level 2 Gym Instructors course with a view to becoming a personal trainer.

“Alongside his studies he represented the college football academy, playing a crucial role in the team’s season and impressing enough with his performances to be signed by Buxton FC in the Evo Stick Premier Division.

“Ethan’s energy, well-mannered persona and charming personality will be sorely missed in the classroom and on the football pitch.”

Two other passengers travelling in the Corsa were injured in the accident.

An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and a 19-year-old man suffered minor injuries.

The drivers of both cars were uninjured.

Police are still appealing for anyone who witnessed the fatal crash to call 101.

n The charity football tournament will take place from 1pm this Sunday at Thorne Colliery in Grange Road, Moorends.

People wanting to play in the tournament can pay £5 on the day.

The event will be followed by refreshments and a raffle draw at Willaspoons on Silver Street, Thorne.
