A CANTLEY couple have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Stan and Phyllis Allcott, aged 84 and 83, were married in 1951 at St Peter in Chains Church in Chequer Road.

They moved to Shirburn Gardens when the houses were first built 56 years ago and have raised their family there.

Phyllis worked for the Co-operative up until her retirement.

They had two children Anthony, who is now 55, and Gerald who died in a motorbike accident aged 19.

The happy couple have two grandchildren, Sarah, 26, and Martin, 24.

Stan, who worked on the railways all of his working life, said: “We’ve been happy all these years.

“You have to get to know each other. We’ve had our ups and downs but you have to get on and enjoy life together.”
