A South Yorkshire woman is calling for more stray dogs to be impounded after her daughter’s pet cat had to be put down after it was ripped apart and left with horrific injuries.
Emma Plummer, who lives on Crown Avenue, Cudworth, Barnsley, opened her door to find her cat Maisie on the doorstep badly mutilated with its stomach ripped open and one leg barely attached.
She immediately took the cat to the vet but he had no choice other than to put the cat to sleep to prevent further suffering.
Emma is too upset to talk about the death of her cat but her mum Meg Plummer told The Star: “The trauma it has caused doesn’t bear thinking of. Hopefully my daughter was able to stop my granddaughter seeing this carnage.
“Too many times I’ve visited my daughter’s home and have seen dogs wandering around the area, not on a lead and unattended.
“And I’m not talking lap dogs but breeds which we are led to believe can be potentially dangerous.
“While on this occasion the victim was a cat, I believe action should be taken to stop dogs being allowed to roam the streets before a child or adult is injured, maimed or killed.”
