MOTORISTS took advantage of a charity car wash in Misterton which helped raise £252 for good causes.
The village fire station held the recent event which split funds between the Firefighters Charity and the All Saints Church Roof Appeal.
Lead thieves have repeatedly stripped lead from the church which has been targeted eight times in as many years.
Church volunteers were hit with a £33,000 repair bill following the latest attack and there were genuine fears All Saints would have to close, if the funds were not forthcoming.
However the community has been galvanised by a number of activities and events to help boost the ‘fighting fund’ which recently passed the half way mark.
Volunteer Jane Moffett has been overwhelmed by the generosity of local residents and businesses and she was present at the car wash.
She said: “We must have cleaned about 45 to 50 cars and on average every driver put in about £5.
“The whole day was absolutely brilliant and I would like to thank Kev and his team of firefighters.”
